The operating principle of a metal detector relies on:

Question

Laravel · Accepted Answer

B Rationale: The operating principle of a metal detector relies on the electromotive force induced by a changing magnetic field.

A permanent magnet does not create the necessary changing magnetic field required for detection; it produces a static magnetic field, which is ineffective for this purpose. The conductivity of metals is relevant for detection but does not solely explain the mechanism by which metal detectors operate, as it is the interaction with the magnetic field that generates the signal. Additionally, thermal signatures are not utilized in metal detection; instead, metal detectors respond to electromagnetic induction, which is key to identifying the presence of metal objects.
