Which structure protects the lungs?

Question

Laravel · Accepted Answer

B Rationale: The ribcage serves as the protective structure for the lungs, encasing them in a bony framework that shields against physical trauma and helps maintain respiratory function.

The femur, while a crucial bone in the leg, does not play a role in lung protection, as it is located far from the thoracic cavity. The scapula, or shoulder blade, is part of the upper body skeleton but primarily supports arm movement rather than lung defense. The skull protects the brain and sensory organs, not the lungs, which are situated in the chest area. Each of these bones serves distinct functions unrelated to the protective role of the ribcage.
